Chaos at Howe Community Park Sends Four People Injured in Sacramento County's Arden-Arcade Neighborhood

Law enforcement in Sacramento are looking into a violent incident that erupted Saturday evening at the Howe Community Park area at the time law enforcement were shutting down a large unsanctioned party of multiple hundreds of people.

What Led to the Shooting

Law enforcement initially responded to the park just after 6:30 Saturday evening after getting calls of people potentially armed with concealed firearms. Soon after, additional information came in mentioning a potential altercation unfolding near the park.

An overhead unit flew over the park but came back with no confirmation of a fight. Even so, it became clear that several hundred individuals had come together at the location in an unauthorized manner.

How the Shooting Unfolded

Sacramento County Sheriff's deputies worked to disperse the crowd by surrounding the park and using their vehicle PA systems telling the assembled crowd to go home. About 15 minutes were spent for the crowd to leave.

Just as the crowd began to move that an estimated 20 to 25 shots were discharged. Gunfire triggered a stampede. Law enforcement wasted no time in looking for those injured.

The Shooting Victims

In total, four people were found to have been shot. Those injured — including a female and three males each apparently in their twenties — were airlifted or driven to nearby hospitals. Medical personnel noted that two had critical injury classifications, one had moderate injuries, and one victim's wounds were minor. Fortunately, all four were in stable condition.

The Sacramento Metropolitan Fire Department also responded and helped care for those with gunshot wounds prior to hospital transport.

Crime Scene Evidence

The bulk of the shooting appears to have happened adjacent to the Cottage Way corridor next get more info to the Home Depot on the 2200 block of Howe Avenue. Investigators discovered more spent casings on the Cottage Way roadway. Round impacts were noted in the wrought iron fence surrounding the Home Depot store. The physical evidence pointed to that at least one of the shooters had been shooting in a southerly direction from along Cottage Way targeting the Home Depot. The store itself was placed on lockdown during the incident. Crime scene technicians and detectives stayed at the location for hours.

Arrests Made

Information obtained over police scanner frequencies showed that a vehicle identified as a Kia had been stopped in the Solano County area. Four suspects were stopped and detained. Deputies were heading to pick up the four detainees to return them to Sacramento for further questioning. Video reviewed at the scene showed that the shooting involved two separate gunmen.
